Forever 21 Opens at SM North The Block

Forever 21 Opens at SM North The Block

I Wanna Be Forever 21!

… or just feel like it ~

We were there (at the mall) just to eat. If I wasn’t really so busy at work lately, I would’ve been nosy enough to know that Forever 21 actually opened up its fashion doors to the “Northerners” last April 20.

I took a peek inside and  I just felt like the store instantly made me feel young, sexy and twenty-oneish because of the wide space it has and the variety of clothes it offers. If it weren’t for my “supportive companion” who deliberately tagged me out of the place, I could’ve stayed for the whole day.

There were pieces which caught my attention in one glance but too bad my phone is battery drained that time (cause my charger broke) and I wasn’t able to take snaps of my new fashion finds.

Good thing though, I was able to search for them at Forever 21′s online store.

Floral Shorts. I am thinkin’ of donning this along with flats though.

This looks sick with shorts!

Oh, I just fell in love with the place. I felt like I was a kid trapped happily in a Wonderland of my favorite clothes, not to mention the “We Found Love” backdrop from Rihanna, which added spice to the experience. If there’s instant love – then this is it.

Note: I don’t own the pictures here.

What Would You Wear Aboard Titanic?

What Would You Wear Aboard Titanic?

Titanic

Huge. Grand. Splendid. The Titanic is the finest cruise ship that epitomizes the love of men for pleasure even at the midst of the ocean. Being the grandest, and most tragic shipwreck of all time, who wouldn’t be captured by the story of this sunken ship?

The ship was crafted beautifully. Seeing her interior details alone (in the movie) is enough to leave my jaws in awe. I want the ship to take me back into the lavish lifestyle of the rich in the nineteen hundreds. How sad it is that such beauty has to face a very tragic predicament. Sometimes I do wonder, how lovely could it have been if I was there on-board (sans the sinking though) and given that I was among those occupying the upper deck of the socialites.

The Titanic sunk on the 15th of April 1912 – that’s about a hundred years back. A century has already passed, but the fatal demise of what’s considered as the largest ship long ago still sends shivers into my spine.

On the other hand, just to lighten things up, I found these fashion sets featuring clothes that I think I’d pack down and wear while finding my own little forbidden love in the ocean and aboard the famous ship.

What Would You Wear on the Titanic?
Titanic ..... so sad

This one’s mine (arrow down):

Find other Titanic-inspired ensembles here.

In commemoration of Titanic’s Centennial Anniversary, Titanic the movie is showing in cinemas now and in 3D. Fancy going back in time? Catch the movie (preferably with your guy) and witness a typical love story in a tragic way.

Just remembered: I was in third grade when this movie became a hit. I can’t forget how popular the OST “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion was. Sigh. Those were the days.

Product of A Sleepless Night

Product of A Sleepless Night

I can’t sleep tonight and as a result, here’s what my creative juices came up with. . .

Sometimes boredom does make you a bit artistic.

Modern Classic

What inspired me: I’m not so sure but I think I saw Mischa Barton wearing a very classy white top along with a pair of jeans; it looks really cute on her!

Just for Lazy Afternoons

What inspired me: I like the idea of not doing anything in a sunny, lazy afternoon. The thought of just laying around in a fine spot and drowning myself over a book sends giggles to my brain. Aaah, the life!

Stroll at the Park

What inspired me: I am fond of parks. In fact, no matter how public is that kind of place I feel so comfortable hangin’ out around it. I eat “dirty” ice creams, buy balloons and just enjoy the shade given by big, leafy trees whenever I do visit the spot. Quezon City Circle is one fine park but they say that there’s something new with Ecopark. . . Perhaps I should drop by some time.

Spring Floral

What inspired me: A girl can never go wrong with floral prints. It gives her a distinct sense of femininity and style. Whenever I see and wear florals, it reminds me of beautiful gardens and lush, green sceneries.

‘Hope you like my creations!

Eye Soothers Straight from the Kitchen

Eye Soothers Straight from the Kitchen

Having big, puffy eyes is a major beauty setback. Eye bags show up when you are stressed and sleep-deprived because the area underneath the eye is mostly made up of water and the skin covering this area is quite thin and sensitive; that’s why it easily flares up if your eyes are tired and swelling (but also easily sinks down when you are dehydrated).

If your eyebags are so visible that you look like a zombie, it’s about time to apply quick beauty fixes. And believe me, natural remedies can cut down the redness and puffiness of your peepers in an instant. The following are ingredients you can grab from the pantry to soothen those engorged eyebags.

Black, Chamomile or Green Tea

More than just a healthy drink, chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the puffiness and redness of the eye. On the other hand, black and green teas have compounds that can perk up your peepers: 1) Tannin which shrinks swollen tissues; and 2) Caffeine which causes vasoconstriction (narrows down blood vessels) thereby reduces swelling.

How to Prepare:

Soak two bags of chamomile, black or green tea in a hot water. After three minutes, remove the bags and place them inside the fridge to cool down. Then place one bag on top of each eye and let it stay for 15 minutes.

Milk

Just like caffeine, cold milk also causes vasoconstriction. In addition, the fat contained by whole milk can soothe dry and irritated skin.

How to Prepare:

Pour the whole milk or cream (ice-cold) into a bowl. Get two cotton balls and soak them in the liquid. Squeeze out the cotton balls and place one over each eye. When the cotton ball warms up, get another set of cotton balls and repeat the procedure for at least 15 minutes.

Metal Spoon

Nope, you’re not gonna scoop out your eyeballs. Metal spoons can cause vasoconstriction when these have been chilled and directly applied unto the surface of the skin.

How to Prepare:

In a glass of ice water, dip four metal spoons. When the spoons have already chilled, get one and place it over one eye. Simply follow the contour of the eye socket when placing the spoon. When the spoon warms up, switch it with the one that has been chilled. Repeat the process until the eye-puffiness is reduced.

Cucumber

Who can ever miss this lovely fruit out? Yes, cucumbers are fruits, not veggies. When it comes to eye bags, cucumber is perhaps the most widely-known remedy. Cucumbers contain Vitamic C (ascorbic acid) and caffeic acid – substances that reduce swelling.

How to Prepare:

Perhaps everybody already knows this drill: Place a slice of cucumber (1/2 inch thick) over each eye. Lean back and just relax for about 10 to 15 minutes. Wash your face with cool water afterwards.

Egg Whites

If you want to make your skin look tighter and smoother, apply some egg whites. It might be a bit gross and sticky, but egg whites do act as astringents. In addition, they are also rich in Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), a substance that helps improve your blood circulation.

How to Prepare:

Beat two egg whites until the mixture is stiff. Using a brush, apply it in the area under your eyes. Let it dry for fifteen minutes. Then, rinse your face well with water. If you want, you can add witch hazel to the mixture before application (one to two drops). This can amplify the anti-swelling effect of the egg whites and it also prevents the mixture from drying too quickly.

Isn’t it great to wake up with peepers having just the right amount of perkiness? If you’re being haunted by those creepy eye bags lately, you better scout your kitchen asap!

News for Picnik Users

I have a bad news and a good one. I bet you want to hear the bad news first, aight?

Well the bad news is – Picnik is closing down. (I’m really so sad for this one.)

Yet the good news is – Picnik Premium is for free until April 19, 2012!!!

Why is it closing?

It’s an ant invasion, that’s what I know. You can visit their site to know the real story though.

Make the Shoe Fit

Make the Shoe Fit
tight shoes

Be good to your feet.

All is Perfect But the Fit

I always have a problem with shoes – my shoe size is six and a half. Shoe stores do not always have half sizes, and so I end up either wearing a little bit tight or a little bit loose shoes. Oftentimes, I opt for a tight pair because I am more uncomfortable with loose ones!

I’ve bought a pair of flats at the little things she needs. It’s weird but their size 37 is like a size 36 in other shoe brands. As much as I like the craftsmanship and the design of the shoes, it’s such a pain to feel my feet being squeezed every time I wear it. Although I can still walk my feet off, I can’t deny that there’s a slight discomfort.

Damn, the flats almost fit my feet, but for some reason, it isn’t just my shoe size. I blamed myself for buying the pair. I’ve always been a “comfort over fashion” kind of girl, but the flats’ design is too tempting I forgot about my mantra.

This big question dawned on me as I raised the pair of shoes up with my hands: What would I do with these?

a. Give it to my niece

b. Wear it (and sacrifice) until it gets bigger

c. MAKE IT FIT

I realized that I can actually scout for resources on how to make shoes bigger. I thought that with the amount of information  available on the Internet, there sure is someone out there with the same problem as with me.

… With a couple of clicks, I did find my answers!

I’ve learned that there are actually many ways on how to make shoes bigger by stretching them. I came across this site that talks about how to transform a tight shoe into a proper fitting one. In addition, I’ve also learned that there are shoes which literally “reform” to follow your feet’s contours if you use them over time.

If you have a “sized-up” problem with shoes, MAKE IT FIT!

P.S.: Uh-oh! I’ve realized that I haven’t updated my blog for more than a month! (Guilty look)

A Lacy Day

A Lacy Day

While the whole world of Showbiz is feasting over the controversial break-up of KC and Piolo (read Boy Abunda’s interview with KC here), I was busy scouring the net for lace prints and lacy stuffs to satisfy my girly cravings. Among all the feminine stuffs I love such as ribbons, ruffles and the like – laces top my list! I must say, laces are fashion basics; from tops, to pants, to nails arts and shoes, there’s no denying that lacy designs create an instant touch of femininity in almost anything.

Feminine Tops

kitschbykat.blogspot.com

If you wanna go girly without putting so much effort, go for lacy tops and pair it with plain pants or skirts to balance the outfit. This cute top above is so simple yet it’s very charming. I’d wear this during a date! The one below is definitely a classic – it’s so elegant and so feminine yet it isn’t over the top. You can pair it with jeans and hills to pull out a girly-rugged look.

Fashion Shoes

I don’t personally dig the color purple, yet won’t you agree if I say that these pair of Air Life shoes from Nike will keep your feet feeling girly while on the go? I love the “3D effect” of the lace on this one. Wanna grab it, yet I’d go with pink and black though.

Wedding Gowns

Even vampires will love this dress on you.

Does this wedding gown look anything familiar to you? If you watched the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn installment, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) dons this  simple yet ultra-elegant dress while nervously walking down the garden aisle. Designed by Carolina Herrera, replicas of Bella’s gown are sold at about $799.

DIY Bracelets

I made this one!

I’m proud to say that I made this bracelet out of lace! This will be my featured craft on Thursday!

Awesome!

Okay, so this chic lace nail art just blew me away! I can’t help but admire the nail design and wish that I can make one too!

Laces aren’t just for curtains, tabletops, wedding gowns, lingerie, and back to basic fashion pieces – in time, it has evolved to fit the preference of the modern generation too. Almost anything right now can be “lacy-fied” in a snap. There is no exact detail of how lace came into this world. History tells that this kind of fabric came into being in the early sixteenth century in England.  Anyway, whoever made this romantic thing up, I’m so much thankful – and I know you are too!

BOTW = Blog of the Week

Hello, friends! Meet The Budget Fashionista, a beauty and fashion site that can instantly become your bestfriend!

The Budget Fashionista

Owner: Kathryn Finney

I came across this site when I was scouting for resources for one of my cosmetic entries, the “Yes Girl, Make-ups Expire.” Although the site’s over-all appearance and format is simple (just a white background and sporadic pictures), my peepers instantly gave it attention because it looks very classy. I think that The Budget Fashionista is a rather gigantic girl-site already (it has a book, by the way) – and so I won’t be surprised why this online space is so well-pulled together.

  • It shouts girl power!

The Drawbacks:

  • Deals posted are only for US-based consumers (sigh)
  • It caters more to mature young/old adults – young teens can’t relate to some posts that much

Yes Girl, Make-ups Expire

Yes Girl, Make-ups Expire

“Unopened, well-formulated cosmetics can remain stable for a couple of years at room temperature, but the clock starts once you bring a product home and open it. When air hits the formula, certain ingredients start to oxidize and degrade.”

-Ni’Kita Wilson, cosmetic chemist, Cosmetech Laboratories, Fairfield, NJ

Even if THAT make-up came with a hefty price tag, you can do nothing but toss it out once it hits the D-line and starts to look like – well, not the way you bought it. Yes, make-ups have expiration dates and you have to be on guard whether what you’re using is way past its shelf life.

Lipstick and Lipgloss

Rows of lipstick

Image via Wikipedia

Shelf Life: 1-2 years

Lip talk: Lipsticks contain water, an element that promotes bacterial growth. After two years, you need to throw it out of your purse.

Lipliner

Lipstick used to make a symbolic kiss.

Shelf Life: 2 years or more

Shape your lips: Lipliners last a little longer because a new, clean surface comes out whenever you sharpen it. Just do take note that you have to sanitize your cosmetic sharpener too before using!

Face Make-up

Face make

Shelf Life: 6 months (liquid), 2 years (powder)

Retouch: A liquid foundation is more likely to catch germs because of the way it is used. Frequent dipping of your brush or fingers to the foundation transfers bacteria. Aside from cleanliness issues, foundations also become uneven if applied when they’re already expired. Powder foundations last longer because they have no water content. However, if the powder contains aloe or jojoba, it becomes hard and crumbles after a long time. Another piece of advice too – use a clean sponge for your powder or cake foundation.

Eyeliner

2 woodless graphite pencils in plastic sheaths...

Image via Wikipedia

Shelf Life: 3 months (liquid), 6 months (pencil)

Beautiful eyes: Liquid eyeliners are stored in bottles that are dark and wet – the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive and multiply. On the other hand, pencil eyeliners (like pencil lipliners) have more shelf life than liquid ones because a new surface comes out whenever you sharpen it.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow

Shelf Life: 6 months (cream), 2 years (powder)

Add some color:

A powder eye-shadow lasts longer because it contains no water as compared to the cream one. However, if you did wet a powder shadow, you need to toss it out post six months too. Plus, if its shade fades when applied, it’s game over.

Mascara

Woman applying make-up. Canon 5D Mark II Sigma...

Image via Wikipedia

Shelf Life: 3 months

Lengthen your lashes: Just like liquid eyeliners, mascara tubes serve as sanctuaries for bacteria. Cristina Bartolucci (make-up artist) says that to prevent drying-out your mascara fast, don’t pump its wand. Instead, draw it out in a twisting motion.

Remind yourself:

With all the work to do and busy life to live, who would care much about remembering a make-up’s demise? Keeping track of your make-up’s shelf life can be difficult – yet you can always be resourceful. Keep a journal or put a small expiration date label on your cosmetic. If you want, you can be extra creative by printing girly stickers (with the expiration dates) – you’re not just doing yourself a favor but you’re also prettifying your beauty arsenal!

If you’re the techie kind of gal, you can use the help of technology by using a Cosmetic Calculator. It’s a program that reveals the expiration date of a cosmetic using its batch code or lot number.

It’s always heart-breaking to throw something you know is precious like your favorite make up. But life’s like that. No matter how important a thing is to us, when it’s time to let it go – let it go!

Good thing though, when it comes to cosmetics you can always buy a new one or find something better than the one you threw away. Save yourself from all infections, allergies, and skin diseases – know when to throw your make-up, girl!

Don’t forget: You can be a Scrooge for items that expire easily, but do invest big in make-ups that last longer. Moreover, do not settle for “extremely cheap” make-ups just for the reason that you’re gonna toss it out anyway. Remember, you put make-ups on your FACE – a beautiful one deserves nothing but the best.
