Category Archives: Anything Goes

Sometimes, my mind just wants to say something out of nothing.

Then My Heart Said: “That’s Enough, Let’s Move On!”

Then My Heart Said: “That’s Enough, Let’s Move On!”

I came across this cliche when I was seventeen:

“They say holding on makes you stronger… But sometimes – it’s LETTING GO.”

It gave me the force to make a decision. Six years after, I never thought I’d use it AGAIN.

“I held my hand up high and spread my fingers like a flower that opens in spring. And there it goes… As delicate as a young butterfly but as strong as the wings of an eagle. It soared high up in the skies… I watched it closely, every move, every second… Until it disappeared from my sight. What a lovely way to end something. What a tragic memory to leave behind. Yet I know though that love is gone, it will forever be…FREE.

Today is the birthday of Howard Carter – the famous discoverer of the tomb of Tutankhamun, the boy pharaoh. Thanks to Google, by the way, for commemorating it via their search page.

I have always been a fan of Egyptian stuffs and the like. I do recall having a weird dream years ago wherein I was an Egyptian princess and my mom was a queen. Ah-uh, wishful thinking has no limits. The story of pharaohs, pyramids, sphinx’s and what have you just don’t fail to amuse my mind lost in wonder and awe by the greatness of this civilization.

Today, I send my birthday regards to “The Father of Egyptomania.” When Howard Carter and his team of “Egyptian Geeks” opened up that long-shut seal of Tutankhamun’s tomb on the 16th of February 1932, they didn’t just make a great discovery but they opened Egypt’s mystery to the world.

“Can you see anything?,” asked Carnarvon (the expedition’s financer) to Carter when the latter was able to make a breach thru the top left hand corner of the doorway leading to the tomb.

“Yes, wonderful things.” Carter replied.

The Curse

Along with the name of Howard Carter comes the never-ending story of the so-called “Curse of Tutankhamun” – a series of accounts saying that after the opening of King Tut’s tomb bad luck came to those who are involved in it, primarily Lord Carnarvon who died 4 months and 7 days after the BIG event.

After his untimely death caused by a mosquito bite that he shaved and got infected (blood poisoning), a swarm of taboo stories emphasizing what will happen if one opens the forbidden resting place of pharaohs emerged, with media playing the most part of the circulation.

Read this article about the curse.

Response to the linked article: I am not suprised. An amazing discovery is worth the eyes and ears of everyone… Yet if asked if I buy the story, I’ll say between science and superstition, I prefer both. I believe in science but I also do not discriminate superstition. I think this so-called “curse” can be true in some aspects.

If you wanna read more about Howard Carter, let me direct you to Wiki.

On another note, if you want to know more about Egypt but in a fun and amusing way, I suggest you check out this game – Children of the Nile.

It’s a bit boring if you’re hoping for adventure – but it suits well the taste of “Sims addicts and free-builders.” The game lets you make your own Egyptian city, incorporating all the aspects of what makes up the “Gift of the Nile.”

Just Wishing

At one point in my life I actually wanted to be an anthropologist; to explore, dig down earth, and dust artifacts… But though I didn’t pursue my dream of becoming an archeologist or Egyptologist, my hunger is somehow being satiated by books or web contents that I read. What can I say? There is much yet to be seen.

Many of the world’s past is still kept hidden from our knowledge. With the thousands of pyramids lying neath the sands of Egypt, what could be there waiting to be unearthed? Indeed, the world is full of mysteries and wonderful things – stories left by the fragments of our forefathers and the lost civilizations before our dawn.

Sometimes I do mull over the history of mankind. . . I wanted to relive the past and understand how it shaped us and is directing our future. It might sound futile and negative to look back and dig our very roots, yet for me it’s about knowing where you came from, so that you will feel complete as you journey to where you’re going to.

The epitaph of Howard Carter says…

“May your spirit live, May you spend millions of years, You who love Thebes, Sitting with your face to the north wind, Your eyes beholding happiness” and “O night, spread thy wings over me as the imperishable stars”.

May he find rest at the bosom of our One True God.

This Week On the Web: Nonsense Ramblings and Random Snaps

This Week On the Web: Nonsense Ramblings and Random Snaps

I was so sucked out of energy at work that I spent my whole weekend just snoozing at the couch with my dog also nodding off at the floor (and he stinks). I just had one full meal of junk food yesterday, thanks to the short distance of McDo from the apartment and today I just ate breakfast and dinner. The rest is lost in wonderland.

That lazy day when you just want to lie around and do nothing comes too often right now. Perhaps this could be stress – or just pure slacking-off.

I spent quite some time over the net, sniffing for what’s new and what could be explored. I just don’t feel like writing anything “informative” right now like how-to’s, what’s cool, yada, yada.

I just want to be lost in oblivion and carry on sleeping for a century. Oh, this is a major issue. Perhaps I have problems with commitment. I wanna write about how The Avengers took my brain off my head, I wanna share how I spent Earth Day by recycling things at home. Yet the writer within me is so trapped on being a slob that I can’t even raise a finger to create a nice entry. But what do I call this entry then? Just a product of my thoughtless musings.

I have a detailed list of what I’ll write for my blog. But I’m just too distracted to start it off. Where are my entries? Crossed out. Gone. Forgotten. They were written off like a bad debt. That’s it. Perhaps I’ll be luckier the following days though.

This slot is nothing but my tired ruminations. If you happen to get a sense out of it then it must be a mistake. Nevertheless, I managed to at least compile the following from my short-lived visit on the web.

Lookbook Fantasies

Randomness

The week has ended. I smell another coming up. Hope this one’s different.

Note: I do not own any of these pics. I’m just sharing them.

Reblogged from idoneread100classics:

I suck (kind of). I haven’t read a classic book since the last one I posted 4 or 5 months ago. My only redemption is that I have still been reading, just not classics. I finished Ishmeal, which is an all-around awesome book that I highly recommend. I also finished the “hunger games” trilogy, which was pretty good. I thought the first 2 books were great and the 3rd one, not so much.

What caught my attention about this blog is the saying "Classic. A book which people praise but don't read." by Mark Twain. I have to agree - as I am guilty as well. I know a lot of classic books because they are popular, the author is an award-winner, etc. But I've never really found the time to read them and see for myself if those books are indeed extraordinary. On a side note, I am with the author of this blog, it takes a great deal of inspiration before I can actually finish a book. The last classic that my eyes sunk into is The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I've read just one chapter I guess. Urgh. The lazy me is such a strong woman - I suck too.

What Would You Wear Aboard Titanic?

What Would You Wear Aboard Titanic?

Titanic

Huge. Grand. Splendid. The Titanic is the finest cruise ship that epitomizes the love of men for pleasure even at the midst of the ocean. Being the grandest, and most tragic shipwreck of all time, who wouldn’t be captured by the story of this sunken ship?

The ship was crafted beautifully. Seeing her interior details alone (in the movie) is enough to leave my jaws in awe. I want the ship to take me back into the lavish lifestyle of the rich in the nineteen hundreds. How sad it is that such beauty has to face a very tragic predicament. Sometimes I do wonder, how lovely could it have been if I was there on-board (sans the sinking though) and given that I was among those occupying the upper deck of the socialites.

The Titanic sunk on the 15th of April 1912 – that’s about a hundred years back. A century has already passed, but the fatal demise of what’s considered as the largest ship long ago still sends shivers into my spine.

On the other hand, just to lighten things up, I found these fashion sets featuring clothes that I think I’d pack down and wear while finding my own little forbidden love in the ocean and aboard the famous ship.

Find other Titanic-inspired ensembles here.

In commemoration of Titanic’s Centennial Anniversary, Titanic the movie is showing in cinemas now and in 3D. Fancy going back in time? Catch the movie (preferably with your guy) and witness a typical love story in a tragic way.

Just remembered: I was in third grade when this movie became a hit. I can’t forget how popular the OST “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion was. Sigh. Those were the days.

What is Loneliness?

What is Loneliness?

I was browsing my old files in the computer and I came across this little piece of literature practically just lying around in one of my folders. I don’t have any idea how in the world did I come up with this one but I sure believe I made it during a time when I was pretty darn an outcast.

Gosh, never knew I was THAT “emo.”

It’s funny how you can be in the company of friends at one point and wake up feeling so alone in the next.

What makes us humans so afraid of living without a single soul to be with?

What is loneliness?

I don’t know. . . But I sure know that there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely.

It’s that constant feeling of emptiness which keeps on feeding on your flesh like a monster devouring your very soul and existence – it’s downright real.

To some it’s the depressing atmosphere of the dark.

It’s the strange calmness embracing the air before the first drop of rain ever hits the earth.

It’s the deafening cry of silence, a secluding voice of emptiness…

…An unexplainable feeling of void and space.

It’s a belittling experience of feeling like you have nothing to feel…

Like you have no feelings at all.

It’s when the night consumes the day.

It’s when the nest eventually becomes unoccupied.

It’s when you have reached the end, and realized that you never finished anything.

It’s when the stars fall and kings dethroned.

It’s when the things you knew were real, suddenly became dreams.

It’s when fantasy breaks your heart, and you’re left lying defeated by your own expectations.

It’s when you’re with the company of those who unfavor you.

It’s when you thought you were someone, and finally realized that you’re no one.

It’s when the heavens break apart and the angels cease to sing their hymns.

It’s when you lose sight of you’re connection to your Creator.

It’s when you become intimate but never really one.

It’s when somebody tells you a lie, and you believe it with all your heart.

It’s when you fight a battle alone with the rest of your army just looking behind you.

It’s when hell becomes nothing.

It’s when heaven becomes nothing too.

It’s when you’re lost.

It’s when you lose your mind thinking how you’ve lost yourself.

It’s when you come to a place and find it deserted.

It’s when you push away everyone who cares for you.

It’s when they have finally decided to leave.

It’s when you have been fighting the same old battle for such a very, very long time but at the end – you still lost.

It’s when you can finally grasp victory and see redemption but you gave up.

It’s when your strength became your weakness.

It’s when someone you love breaks your heart.

It’s when hate got tired of your hating.

It’s when the world robs you of everything and gives you back nothing.

It’s when you do good but emerge being bad.

It’s when you seek someone who is gone.

It’s when you call, and there’s no answer.

It’s when you’re rich but never happy.

It’s when you feel weak and unable.

It’s when darkness has consumed even that single streak of light that illuminates your path.

It’s when you feel so down and empty.

It’s when you feel so alone and yet you have no single soul to call.

It when you finally realize, that everything will pass.

It when the past becomes irreversible.

It when nostalgia defies your memory

It’s when somebody leaves…

and never comes back.

I Support the KONY2012 Movement

I Support the KONY2012 Movement

I came across this video on one of the blogs that I follow and I felt the need to share it after seeing it. No, this is not about beauty, fashion, and the usual stuffs that bloggers share to the world.

WATCH THIS VIDEO

After watching the flick, I felt as if I am one with the world in making this place better and safer for our children.

The KONY2012 project is an action plan to make Joseph Kony famous, not to give him praise and honor but to actually facilitate his arrest. Joseph Kony is the leader of LRA, a rebel group in Uganda. He abducts children and makes them soldiers. Currently, there are over 30,000 innocent children that are victims of his evil scheme.

The KONY2012 project has the goal of stopping Joseph Kony through mass information dissemination. If more people will know what he is doing, more people will realize that there is a need to arrest him. And if more people will demand for his arrest, the government will notice and most probably take action.

There is strength in numbers.

Today, I pledge to be part of this movement.
